Senior Data Scientist – Advanced Analytics



We are seeking driven and creative data scientists to join our growing team in analyzing and deriving insights from the billions of data points we store and process each day. OpenSlate measures and scores hundreds of millions of videos on YouTube and Facebook. Hundreds of blue-chip brands rely on OpenSlate’s proprietary data about quality, brand safety and demographics to power their video ad campaigns.

As Senior Data Scientist at OpenSlate, you will examine and process statistical metadata sourced from both public and private APIs to assist our clients in making better marketing decisions. You will utilize your skills in statistics to derive new metrics and processing methodologies for existing data as well as determining how data from new sources could be useful. You will work closely with the data science and engineering team to improve computational efficiency of existing software, develop new data models, and discover new data stories within our existing database.

Responsibilities: 

  • Participating in agile rituals
  • Interpreting and translating business needs into actionable items
  • Defining key metrics and understanding what drives them
  • Communicating complex ideas in simple terms to non-technical colleagues
  • Using textual data to determine a video’s content or brand suitability
  • Determining how to improve our existing suite of models
  • Working with engineering to deploy your project into production

Requirements: 

  • Excellent communication skills when working with other team members to translate business problems into actionable tools, insights and models
  • BS or MS in Mathematics, Statistics, Social Sciences or a similar field, and 2+ years work experience
  • Experience solving problems using statistical and quantitative tools 
  • Experience developing statistical models and analysis using text and numerical data
  • Strong programming skills in python
  • Experience working with git to manage and version your code
  • Understanding of database technologies and the ability to 
formulate complex queries to extract data
  • Ability to examine large quantities of data, derive useful patterns, and turn that 
observation into practical code
  • Being a goal-oriented self-starter 
  • Possession of an enthusiastic and curious mind 
  • A team player who enjoys collaborating with others

Ideal candidates will also have:

  • Advanced programming skills, preferably with Python 

  • Experience using Spark
  • 
Experience applying NLP to data science problems
  • A PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Social Sciences or a similar field, and 2+ years work experience
